I get this! I’d felt creatively stagnant for years. And suddenly I have a baby, and I have the most creative motivation I’ve ever had. Must be the mix of emotional hormones and restricted time that crystallizes exactly what I wish I could be doing. So unfair 😂
But I’m looking into babysitters now that kiddo’s down to one nap, and I am looking forward to finally moving forward with the game plan I’ve been building in my head for the last year. Cheers to our kids who force us to get real about what we want in life.
I used to strap him to my chest and go write at a cafe. The hum of noise kept him asleep! And then as one lovely older woman pointed out when he woke up: he gets to see a great role model of a mom who is writing/creating.
Hooray for one nap life! And yes, I am in complete awe of how much time I wasted pre-baby / second-guessing myself. Nothing like having a kiddo to help you reflect on the impact you want to leave on the world. I'm excited to hear more about what you're dreaming up, whenever you are ready to share!
Great story about.... (can I write this?) ... breasts and suckling and what all that feels like and what mothers sacrifice for their babies' well being! This is a universally important topic that is rarely written about openly. We've had a sexual revolution, we're having a gender revolution, when are we going to have an breastfeeding awareness revolution? Now.
Thank you, Jim! Doctors definitely encourage breastfeeding, but the mother needs to take into consideration the cost to their mental and physical health in doing so. I credit my yoga practice for helping me through my nursing journey and in no way condone mothers who opt for formula feeding. The biggest priority is making sure your child is getting the nutrients to grow and develop, regardless of the method.
So happy we've connected. I did a whole series on Motherhood (and parenthood and mother-writers) on my other Stack. You add a lot of great ideas here! I think it's so valuable to capture these difficult moments and also find what we've gained from them.
Likewise! I love that video you did on why you write, and for me, it's a way to self-reflect on the very long, arduous, and sometimes frustrating (and joyful) process of creating something meaningful.
